This Privacy Policy explains how Puente ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Puente app. We designed Puente around privacy by architecture — meaning we minimize data collection at the infrastructure level, not just in policy.

1. No Accounts or Personal Profiles

Puente does not require — and does not support — user accounts. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifying information. There is no sign-up flow, no login, and no user profile stored anywhere.

You are anonymous to us from the moment you download the App.

2. What Data We Collect

Translation Audio

When you use cloud-based translation (languages other than the 8 offline languages), your voice audio is transmitted to our translation infrastructure, processed in real time to generate a translation, and immediately discarded. Audio is not stored on our servers, not retained in logs, and not used for model training.

Offline Languages (On-Device)

For the 8 offline languages — Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, and Hindi — translation is performed entirely on your device using Whisper AI. Zero audio or translation data leaves your phone during offline sessions.

App Analytics

We collect anonymized, non-identifiable analytics to help us understand how the App is used and identify crashes. This includes:

  • Crash reports and error logs (no personal data)
  • Feature usage patterns (e.g., which modes are used most often)
  • Device type and OS version (for compatibility)

These analytics contain no personal identifiers and cannot be linked back to any individual user.

Purchase Receipts

In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive only a purchase confirmation token — not your credit card number, billing address, or Apple ID. We use this confirmation solely to unlock paid features.

3. Conversation History

Conversation history — including transcripts and translated text — is stored only on your device. It is never uploaded to our servers. If you delete the App, your conversation history is permanently deleted.

4. Third-Party Services

DeepL Voice API

Cloud-based translation uses the DeepL Voice API. Audio is transmitted to DeepL for processing and immediately discarded — DeepL does not store audio or use it for training under our agreement. For DeepL's privacy practices, see deepl.com/privacy.

Apple App Store

All in-app purchases are handled by Apple. Apple's privacy policy governs data collected during the purchase process. We do not receive any payment details.

No Advertising Networks

Puente contains no advertising SDKs, no ad networks, and no data brokers. We do not share, sell, or license your data to any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.

5. HIPAA Alignment

Puente is designed to align with HIPAA's Privacy Rule and Security Rule principles:

  • No persistent storage of audio or conversation content on our servers
  • No collection of protected health information (PHI)
  • Encrypted data transmission for cloud translation
  • Anonymized analytics with no patient-identifiable information

Healthcare organizations using Puente in clinical settings remain responsible for their own HIPAA compliance obligations. Contact support@puente.chat to discuss organizational deployments.

6. Title VI Compliance

Puente is built to support organizations subject to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which requires meaningful language access for limited-English-proficient individuals receiving federal assistance. Our 109-language coverage, offline capability, and no-account design are intended to make language access practical in real-world settings.

7. Children's Privacy

Puente does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. Because we collect no personal information at all, we are compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by default. The App is not directed at children.

8. Data Security

All audio transmitted for cloud translation is encrypted in transit using TLS. We apply industry-standard security practices across our infrastructure. Because we store minimal data, the potential impact of any security incident is inherently limited.

9. Your Rights

Because we do not collect personal information, there is no user data to access, correct, or delete on our end. If you want to clear conversation history, you can do so in the App or by deleting the App from your device.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be communicated through the App or on this page. The date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised.

11. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States.
